For over seven decades, the Stewart Volunteer Fire Department has stood as the first line of defense for our community — responding with courage, training, and unwavering commitment when it matters most.
The Stewart Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1947 by a group of neighbors who recognized that their rural community deserved reliable, rapid emergency protection. What began as a handful of volunteers with a single truck has grown into a well-equipped, professionally trained department serving Stewart and the surrounding Choctaw County area.
Every member of our department answers the call as a volunteer. We maintain our station, train continuously, and stay on standby — not for pay, but because this is our community. When a call comes in at 2 a.m. or during a severe storm on a Sunday, we answer. That is the commitment we made, and the commitment we keep.
Our station at 47 Choctaw Street has been a landmark of safety in Stewart for generations. We work closely with Choctaw County emergency services, local law enforcement, and state agencies to ensure coordinated, effective response across the region.
We live here too. Your safety is our personal priority.
